While LEGOLAND California offers a year-round celebration of LEGO bricks, the Carlsbad theme park (located north of downtown San Diego) turns the fun up a notch to celebrate various holidays during the year. Such festivities can include separate-ticket events as well as special treats, parties, and entertainment.
Summer Events at LEGOLAND California
The Carlsbad theme park has a long tradition of showing its national pride on July 4. Its annual Red, White & Boom celebration offers games, dance contests, and early-evening fireworks for July 4.
Halloween Season and “Brick-Or-Treat”
For Halloween, the goal is to entertain—not frighten—the smaller set. Come for the Brick-Or-Treat event on Friday and Saturday nights, starting in September and lasting through the last weekend of October. During these special-ticket events, friendly monsters and LEGO characters take over the park with entertainment, costume contests, giant LEGO Halloween models, fireworks, and of course plenty of sweet treats. Each year the parties tend to feature a new show or short movie, and sometimes rides like The Dragon coaster get a holiday makeover.
Even if you don’t come for the weekend evenings, you’ll still see Halloween decor and be able to experience seasonal treats around the park.
The Holiday Season at LEGOLAND
For the Christmas season—typically starting around mid-November and lasting through early January—the entire resort is aglow with holiday cheer, twinkling lights, and music. Marvel at the world’s largest all-LEGO Christmas tree, take a family photo with a life-sized LEGO Brick Santa and Reindeer, sing carols with elves, and stock up on LEGO brick gifts. Streamline the whole experience (and get a deal) by booking a holiday vacation package stay that includes park tickets, hotel, and entry fees.
Kids’ New Year’s Eve at LEGOLAND
Come right after Christmas and you can take part in a family-friendly version of New Year’s Eve, with live music and a bedtime-friendly “brick drop” at 6 p.m. On special nights in December, add holiday fireworks and light shows to the mix.
Plan Your Trip
Check LEGOLAND’s Seasonal Events page before your visit to see about any other upcoming events, like new shows or attractions. When planning, visit the park’s deals page, which details the current specials for staying at the onsite hotels or bundling your stay with tickets. The two onsite lodging options, right outside the park gates, include The LEGOLAND Hotel (with Pirate, Kingdom, Adventure, and LEGO Friends themes) and the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel, which offers Knights & Dragons, Royal Princess, and Magic Wizard themed rooms. Staying at either hotel offers early park access, special activities like scavenger hunts, and a complimentary breakfast.
Families visiting LEGOLAND California can build a whole trip out of exploring this part of North County San Diego. If you visit the park during the spring, don’t miss the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch, a 50-acre field lined with buttercup-like ranunculus flowers.
